HVDC Officer

Reference ID:  667

As of 2019, Elia's high-voltage network no longer consists solely of AC connections, but also includes high-voltage DC (HVDC) connections, namely the Nemo and ALEGrO links. These connections use power electronics and deliver numerous benefits (voltage and flux management, coupling asynchronous networks, etc.). Given these benefits, it is likely that other power electronics applications will be applied in the Elia grid (FACTS, Smart Wire, new interconnectors, etc.).

As an HVDC Officer, you will contribute to the safe and efficient management of maintenance and local operations of the various HVDC and other power electronics-based facilities in the Elia grid by supporting the local teams in developing skills, monitoring maintenance and developing operational expertise.

Your job will include the following duties:

  • developing in-depth operational knowledge of all aspects of the facility (AC, DC, protection systems, operations, and ancillary services such as auxiliary power supply, cooling systems and building services);
  • giving advice on the operation of the facilities and the action to be taken following incidents, and making your expertise available to other departments;
  • coaching employees from the various teams (e.g. Nemo, ALEGrO) so that they continue to develop optimally as motivated and efficient teams that have all the required skills and certificates;
  • helping ensure that all activities relating to the various facilities (e.g. operation, preventative and corrective maintenance, annual maintenance, etc.) are carried out safely, punctually and to a high standard;
  • helping to draft and implement safety procedures, operational processes and working methods;
  • monitoring the various contractors who are active in the facilities and contributing to the implementation of an optimal sourcing and outsourcing strategy;
  • monitoring the management system, MRs and incidents relating to the facilities and helping to continuously improve the management of the facilities.

Your Profile

  • You are a civil or industrial engineer, specialised in electronics, energy, electricity or electromechanics, or have equivalent experience.
  • You have 1 to 3 years of experience, preferably in the operational managementof assets. You speak fluent Dutch, French and English.
  • You are an effective, assertive and practically minded communicator and a team player. You regard safety as a top priority.
  • Experience in HVDC, industrial automation and utilities (HVAC, diesel, firefighting, etc.) would be an advantage.
  • Experience in procurement (drawing up specifications, analysing offers, contract management, monitoring executed work) would be an asset.
