We are looking for a dynamic Compliance Officer to lead and inspire our colleagues in ensuring that Elia Group upholds the principles of legality and ethical conduct. As a Compliance Officer at Elia, your role is pivotal, encompassing the following key responsibilities:
- Implementing and Managing Legal Compliance and Ethics & Integrity Program: Lead a comprehensive program covering transversal topics, including the Code of Ethics and associated group policies such as anti-bribery and corruption, conflict of interest, whistleblowing, and third-party risk management. You will also monitor the effectiveness of measures related to compliance topics specific to various business units or corporate functions.
- Developing and Reviewing Company Policies: Collaborate with 50Hertz colleagues to create and review company policies for Elia Group and the Belgian legal entities within the group, including ETB, Windgrid, EGI, and Re.alto.
- Delivering Compliance Training Programs: Develop, deliver, and oversee compliance training programs to ensure all employees are well-versed in compliance standards.
- Overseeing Legal Compliance with Electricity and Other Laws: Act as the authority on Elia's compliance with electricity and other laws, preparing an annual report to the CREG (Belgium's energy regulator) and translating findings into relevant policies.
- Liaising with CREG: Serve as the point of contact with the CREG on compliance matters, working closely with other corporate departments to ensure compliance.
- Ensuring Aligned Assurance on Elia's Control Environment: Collaborate with Internal Audit and Risk Management to ensure that Elia's control environment aligns with compliance standards.
- Contributing to Corporate Governance: Assist in drafting corporate governance input for annual reports and questionnaires for banks, investors, assessors, and auditors.
- Reporting on Status and Compliance Risks: Regularly report on the status of compliance efforts and highlight key compliance risks.
As a Compliance Officer, you will report to the Head of Internal Audit & Risk Management.

Your Profile
To excel in this role, you should ideally possess:
- A Law degree.
- A good understanding and willingness to invest in knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to Elia Group.
- Understanding of CMS activities, including aFRR, mFRR, FCR, and CRM, is a plus.
- Strong communication skills in English, French, and Dutch (knowledge of German is a plus) in both formal and informal contexts.
- The ability to recognize key issues in applicable laws and regulations, propose compliance solutions to foster long-term business growth, and ensure the implementation of appropriate compliance control programs.
- Proficiency in conveying complex regulatory issues to management and staff in a clear and understandable manner.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with other control functions, corporate functions, and businesses.
- Demonstrated empathy and perseverance to drive successful compliance implementation.
